A little while back, my friend Alison came up with the sweetest way to shake off the winter blues. “Every time I walk into Trader Joe’s, the flowers are so cheerful,” she said. “So I thought—why not just make my own bouquets?” Instead of splurging on fancy florist arrangements, she started picking up $20 to $25 worth of blooms during her grocery runs. Back at home, she’d play around with different combinations—tulips with eucalyptus, daffodils tucked into mason jars—and fill her apartment with fresh color and scent. “It’s such a small thing,” she told me, “but it makes the whole week feel brighter.”
