Six years ago, in the thick of one of those never-ending, gray-skied winters, my friend Liz came up with something kind of genius: soup group.

The concept was beautifully simple — and yet it completely changed our cold-weather routines. Each person in the group would take a turn making a big pot of soup and delivering it to the others. In return, on the weeks you weren’t cooking, hot soup just… appeared at your door. Creamy tomato one week, hearty lentil the next, maybe a spicy ramen broth after that. It was cozy and grounding and made those long, dreary days feel a little more manageable.

But beyond the obvious convenience (and deliciousness), soup group did something more — it became a little ritual of care. A quiet way of saying: You’re not alone in this season. We’ve got each other. And honestly? I can’t think of a better reason to start a new tradition.
