My Mom’s Style

This weekend was a quiet one. Anton wasn’t feeling well, so we stuck close to home and filled our time with gentle rituals — reading books in bed, nibbling applesauce by the spoonful, and flipping through old family photo albums. There’s something especially comforting about those grainy snapshots, where everyone’s wearing slightly outdated clothes and smiling in that timeless, familiar way.

As always, I found myself lingering on photos of my mom — her quiet confidence, her warmth, and, of course, her effortlessly cool style. Even in the most candid shots, she had this way of looking polished without trying too hard. I kept noticing these little details that made her look so put together, and it got me thinking: what are the tiny things that create personal style?

Here are five style touches my mom wore so well — and that I’m inspired to borrow myself:

  1. A Well-Loved Sweater
Not overly trendy, but the kind you reach for again and again. Hers had slightly worn cuffs and soft textures, the kind that feel like a hug.
  2. Gold Hoop Earrings
Just big enough to catch the light. They added a bit of glow to her face, even on makeup-free days. Timeless and unfussy.
  3. A Pop of Lipstick
Even on casual days, she’d swipe on a warm coral or berry shade. It instantly brightened everything, like a smile in color form.
  4. Rolled Sleeves
Whether it was a button-down or a knit, she always rolled her sleeves with a certain ease. It gave every outfit a bit of movement and approachability.
  5. A Scarf Tied Just Right
Around the neck, in her hair, or looped through a belt — she treated scarves like accessories with a sense of play. And somehow, it always looked intentional.

Even now, her style continues to whisper little lessons: that confidence is quiet, that comfort doesn’t mean sacrificing beauty, and that personal style isn’t about following trends — it’s about living in your clothes, memories and all.

Do you ever draw style inspiration from someone you love? I’d love to hear.
